Inspired by the success of the book Chess Tactics For Beginnersˇˇˇˇ, the author decided to compile a volume for advanced players, too. Viktor Vamos himself, who did well both in the Junior European Championship and in the Junior World Championship, owed his own rapid progress largely to a thorough study of types of positions similar to those shown in this book of his. The acquisition of the essential concepts of chess (such as the weakness of the back rank, the decoying and distracting sacrifices, the double attack, the king stuck in the middle, or the endgame tactics) is assisted by 20 x 48 diagrams, which also develop the skill of the players desirous to learn by the fact that the author sets them the task of solving various chess problems.
